How many pages does a small business website need?

The five-page package is a habit of the web design trade rather than a rule. Home, About, Services, Gallery and Contact made sense when a website was an online brochure. Today most visitors arrive from Google on a phone, searching for something specific: a physiotherapist for a knee injury, a caterer for a mehndi, an IELTS class near Commercial Market. Google prefers to show a page that is about exactly that thing, so a single Services page listing twenty items competes poorly with a rival who has a separate, detailed page for each.

Start with a list of what you sell, then ask which items people would search for on their own. A dental clinic would usually split implants, braces, root canals, whitening and children's dentistry. A property consultant might have separate pages for renting, selling, and each society they actually work in, as long as each page has genuine local detail rather than the same text with the area name swapped. That last point matters: pages that only change a word are treated as thin, and they can drag the whole site down.

Then add the pages that build trust: who you are and your qualifications, real photos of the place, a contact page with a map, timings and a landmark people recognise, and a frequently asked questions page written in the words customers use on WhatsApp. Leave out pages with nothing to say, such as an empty blog or a gallery of three photos.
