Platform
YouTube in Pakistan: how it works and who it works for
YouTube is the only platform here that pays Pakistani creators directly and keeps working for years. A video you upload today can still bring viewers in 2029. For a business it is the trust engine — someone searches your name, finds a twelve-minute video of you explaining something properly, and turns up already convinced.
Mechanics
How does YouTube decide who sees your posts?
YouTube decides almost everything on click-through rate and average view duration. It shows your thumbnail to a small test group, watches how many click and how long they stay, then widens or quietly stops. Search still matters for how-to, price and comparison topics in Urdu, where competition is far thinner than in English. Shorts run on a separate loop that rewards full watches and rewatches, not subscribers. Most real growth for Pakistani channels comes from Suggested, sitting beside a bigger channel's video.
| Format | Ratio | Length | Caption limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Long-form video | 16:9 | 8–20 minutes suits most Pakistani topics; uploads allowed up to 12 hours | Title 100 characters, description 5,000 — only the first 150 show before 'Show more' |
| Shorts | 9:16 | Up to 3 minutes; under 45 seconds still loops best | Title 100 characters — the #Shorts tag is no longer needed |
| Live stream | 16:9 | 45–90 minutes for a Q&A; you need 50 subscribers to go live from a phone | Title 100 characters, description 5,000 — the title is what shows in the live shelf |
| Community post | 1:1 | Text, image or poll — no video length involved | Room for a long paragraph, but three lines is all anyone reads |
| Thumbnail | 16:9 | Static image, 1280 x 720 pixels, under 2 MB | Maximum 4–6 words on the image; it is judged at the size of a matchbox |

Best times to post (PKT)
- 7–9am — the commute into Blue Area and Saddar; Shorts and talk content get played on mobile data in the van
- 1–2:30pm — office lunch and the walk home from school; short videos only, people are eating with one hand
- 9–11:30pm — after dinner and once load-shedding is over and the Wi-Fi is back; the biggest long-form window in the country
- Saturday 11am–2pm — the weekend sit-down, often cast to a TV; the only slot where a 25-minute video gets finished
- Ramadan 2–4am — sehri hours are genuinely busy and badly served; recitation, cooking and talk content all do well
Earning from YouTube in Pakistan
YouTube pays, and it pays into a Pakistani bank account. You need 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours in twelve months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million Shorts views in 90 days. AdSense releases money once you cross USD 100. Urdu content watched mostly inside Pakistan earns roughly PKR 80,000 to PKR 300,000 per million long-form views — the range is that wide because it depends on your topic and on how much of your audience sits in the UK, US or Gulf. Shorts pay a small fraction of that. Be honest with clients: most Pakistani channels earn more from one brand deal than from a whole month of ad revenue.
What we do
What we do on YouTube for a client every month
- 01Edit 4 long-form videos a month — tighten the cuts, add captions, fix the audio so it is listenable on a phone speaker in a noisy shop
- 02Design a thumbnail for every upload, then swap it if click-through is under 4% after the first 48 hours
- 03Research what people in Pakistan actually type into YouTube for your topic, in both Urdu and English, and build the title and description around those words
- 04Cut 12 Shorts from footage you already filmed, with the hook landing inside the first 2 seconds
- 05Set chapters, end screens, cards, the right playlist and a pinned comment on every video
- 06Reply to comments in your voice during the first 24 hours, when replies push a video hardest
- 07Read the retention graph every month and tell you the exact second people leave, then change the next script because of it
- 08Send a weekly WhatsApp report with impressions, click-through, average view duration and what we are changing next week
